Crew
At RAAM there exists an often-repeated statement: the crew cannot carry you to the finish line but can prevent you from reaching it. This sentence is, in my opinion, only partly correct (the second part) and hence, partly wrong (the first part). Surely, errors by the team or big issues within the crew or the crew and the athlete can all lead to DNF (did not finish), but one should not underestimate the impact of the mental support the team is able to give the athlete. Since the mind moves the body, the crew’s effect on the athlete’s performance is more than merely supporting his bodily needs. Hence the successful participation for a soloist is also a crew/team success!
My 11-people support team consists of my family and several friends, who will all add to the success of the mission with team spirit as well as with their individual specific abilities (in alphabetical order):
- Dennis Boehm (navigation, pace car 1)
- Markus Hilgart (team coordination)
- Patrik Müller (public relations & photography)
- Nadja Nehls (film camera & script)
- Sabine Nehls (nutrition & organization)
- Sarah Nehls (Physiotherapie)
- Sebastian Nehls (mechanic/electric & film cutter)
- Errol Pfluger (navigation RV, nutrition)
- Dr. Torben Pottgiesser (sports medicine)
- Daniel Schillinger (informatics, navigation film creww)
- Günter Wolf (navigation pace car 2 & bicycle mechanic Radmechanik)
